Look for any new damage on the bag, and to be sure that it was not opened and something taken (airlines have time limits for when these can be reported, and they will need to see the damage before opening the claim for damage or pilferage). The baggage service desk for the airline is normally right in the claim area; this is also true for Customs arrivals. It is especially important to fill out the misplaced baggage information before leaving Customs, as Customs will have special forms that may help the baggage clear without your presence at the airport. If you have combination locks or keys for the baggage, these should be left with the paperwork for your baggage - as it will prevent delays in getting your bag or possible bag damage from Customs opening the bag. Tobi Harris ID36 - Whenever flying don't book yourself on the last flight of the day. If you miss your flight you will end up stuck in an airport or hotel for the rest of the night. Jess Darling ID500 - With delays becoming more and more common for flights, every traveler should anticipate them and prepare accordingly. Pack something in your briefcase, carry-on, or purse that will keep you occupied if your flight is late. Perhaps a book or two, crossword puzzles, a cell phone with games in memory, or an MP3player/iPod loaded with an audio book or language lessons. Be sure to have a snack or two handy as well. Perry Duncan ID2051 - To start your holiday in style and make you feel as though you've had another day's holiday, book an airport hotel and stay the night before you fly. Not only does this save the hassle of travelling to the airport on the day of departure, but it also gives you valuable time to chill out and leaves you completely relaxed for the flight. Gatwick Airport Meet and Greet Parking has more holiday tips! Paula Garrett ID2122 - We'll soon be taking two flights from Perth to London: Perth to KL then KL to London. The shortish five-hour flight from Perth I'm not too worried about, it's the 15-hour one that really concerns me. So I made a long list of all the things I can do to keep me occupied and stressless. What I think is a great idea is to break your flight down into sections; for instance, break a 14-hour flight into 14 sections. Then simply fill out an activity for each section; i.e., HOUR 1. Relax - get to know the area. HOUR 2. Play a game or two, listen to some music. This way you will always have something to do! What I do is since I have an iTouch is to download loads of free simple apps onto it. Don't look at what you get either until you are on the plane. Download all sorts of things so you have lots to choose from, then discover what you got! An iPod doesn't last more than a couple of hours on gaming, so I suggest getting a long-life cheep iPod shuffle or MP3 player. Use it just for music and it can last the entire flight!
