- Please do not trust the locals in a developing country to tell you if their water is safe to drink or not. For them, it is. For you, it probably isn't. Plan on buying bottled water, WITH SEALED CAPS, especially in Asia, South America and Africa. The price is small compared to what could be a disastrous effect on your trip by drinking the local water. When in doubt, play it safe! Alice Leahy ID1164 - Most travelers want to take along a cell phone on their trip, but knowing if your phone will work in certain countries takes research. One site has provided an easy comparison chart that tells you exactly where your phone will work. Check it out at Unique Phones Check Phone Compatibility. Vicki ID2089 - Did you ever wonder why the food at most all-inclusives is pretty bad? That is because they are trying to please guests from all over the world, and the best way is to take the middle of the road and make the food relatively bland. If you are like most people who go to all-inclusives in the Caribbean or Mexico, it seems you just can't get up in time to reserve those a la carte dinners. Most resorts require that the reservation be made by 9 a.m. Who wants to get up that early, especially since most of these dinners will still be disappointing? Luckily, several brands including Dreams, Now, Secrets, and Zoetry offer a new kind of dining experience. No longer must you wear a wristband while at the resort nor will you have to make any kind of dinner reservation. This new type of dining is full a la carte all the time at all the dinner restaurants. No more tired buffet food. Many of the resorts now have up to eight restaurants open for dinner, all with walk-in privileges. If there is a wait, they give you a beeper and you can have a cocktail while you wait for your table. They are also doing a good job of trying to be more gourmet-oriented and even hire award-winning chefs. Check out an example at our restaurant page at Home Secrets Silversands Insider and see the quality of the offerings for yourself. Bon appetit! Mark S.
