Then when having the film developed, write the number on the envelope. This will keep the photos in chronological order - which helps in identifying photos based on your itinerary. Package rates are often much more favourable than rates quoted when you show up at a hotel door with a suitcase. Be very wary about furnishing your credit card details when all you want is information about availability of accommodation. You may find you have authorized a payment for accommodation that you don't want. I recently went to the JapanHotel.Net site in my search for a hotel in Kyoto. I wanted to check availability in Kyoto Ryokan Kinoe, but found there was no way to do so on this site. When you click on the 'ask a question' button, you read: 'Please do not request availability information. We cannot give this information as it becomes outdated very quickly and the situation is often different when the guest tries to make a reservation.' So my only option if I wanted to find out about availability of rooms in Kinoe was to supply my credit card details and click on the 'reserve' button. Since I was shopping around at the time, I found and booked with another hotel that was cheaper and more convenient, not realizing that my enquiry with JapanHotel.Net had resulted in a confirmed booking. I returned home from my trip to Japan to discover that the hotel was classing me as a 'no-show' and applying the full penalty - 100% of the accommodation charge for two nights - a whopping £350 of pure profit, in return for no services whatsoever. I learned the hard way not to give out credit card details in advance of finding the right information. So, if you're looking for accommodation in Japan, be very careful not to let this happen to you. Editor's Note: or any other country! Ingrid Cranfield ID2091 - When on a long, multi-stop trip, take a photo of that part of your itinerary before heading out for sightseeing. Then, when the pictures are returned, you'll know exactly from which part of your journey they were taken - that day's/location's itineray will precede each set of pictures. Jan Haniffy ID153 - If staying in a chain operated hotel and service is unacceptable, and if the local manager refuses to accommodate reasonable requests or compensate for your suffering/discomfort, contact the headquarters of the hotel chain (can usually find their phone # by dialing Directory Assistance) and present the matter to headquarters. I did this when I was put in a filthy hotel room and the only option the local manager gave me (after validating that my room was filthy), was to transfer me to another room within the same hotel which turned out to be just as dirty (manager validated this as well but had no other options). I called headquarters that night (2 am) and they arranged hotel accommodations at one of their other (higher end) hotels nearby at the rate of the lower end hotel (with the dirty rooms), and gave me one night free of charge. Because they were helpful in resolving the problem immediately, I continue to patronize this hotel chain.
