  • Aromatherapy Oil for Headaches

  • - If suffering from a headache during travelling, try massaging lavender aromotherepy oil where the pain is - it works wonders!

  • Ask for a Discount

  • - If you shop at touristy places, bear in mind that tour guides/operators who take their visitors to these types of shops all get a commission on purchases for the clients they bring to the venue. This generally represents 10% of the purchase price. Effectively, this means that all these venues cost the extra 10% into their selling price. There is no harm in you, as a tourist to a foreign land, asking for this as a discount for yourself if you travel on your own - or even asking your tour guide to arrange his commission to be turned into a discount for you. Remember YOU are paying for this anyway and it is your money being slurped up so be big and bold enough to ask for it. This has never failed me in the past.

  • ATM Withdrawals

  • - Whilst withdrawing money from an ATM, try to use a machine outside a bank and make sure the bank is OPEN. If the machine eats your card you can then go inside and retrieve it.

  • Avoid Expensive Long Distance Bills

  • - Sometimes, making a simple telephone call can be a nightmare when you're on the road. And it gets even worse when you get home and find EXPENSIVE bills from a whole bunch of phone companies, even some that you've never heard of before. Here's a simple way to avoid those unwanted, expensive bills:
    • Always use a touch tone phone
    • Dial '00' (Push the '0' operator button TWO times, instead of just once)
    • Listen for the name of the long distance company connected to that telephone.
    • If you hear the name of YOUR OWN long distance company, go ahead and use that phone, just the way you always do.
    • If you hear the name of a DIFFERENT long distance company, you might want to consider trying to find a phone that is connected to your company.

  • Backpacking Freshener

  • - I own and operate a hiking outfitter and guide business. We pack llamas and walk several miles a day in the mountains and canyons of Utah. We get quite grimy and sticky with no bath water in the backcountry. The best freshener and body cleanser I've found is old-fashioned Witch Hazel and flat cotton pads. IN the privacy of your tent, swab yourself down and be refreshed. No alcohol ... no burn.
