  • Wash Clothes On-The-Go?
    - Here's how to wash clothes 'on-the-go'. Pack a few ounces of laundry detergent in a small plastic travel bottle. Also pack a slightly larger spray bottle that can be filled with water. If your clothes aren't really dirty, but only need freshening, mix the detergent with some water in the spray bottle, spray the soapy mixture on the underarms, down the shirt front, etc., of the garments. Then step into the shower, wash yourself and rinse the clothing at the same time. Let the clothes drip in the shower overnight and, most times, they'll be dry the next day.

  • Water, Water Everywhere ...
    - When travelling, and going out and about on day trips, always ensure you carry at least 1 bottle of water. It is very easy to get dehydrated while busy doing other things, especially if they are strenuous activities such as hiking, cycling or even shopping (!!) - and a drink of cool water on hand can be a God-send.

  • Waterproof Wallet
    - I travel with a waterproof wallet that can be purchased at a scuba dive shop. I wear this under my clothes, and carry money, ID, etc. This keeps my valuables close to me, it is very difficult to pickpocket, and it is great for the beach/pool.

  • Where to Purchase a Fireproof Safe
    - You can purchase an inexpensive fireproof safe (which usually comes with 2 keys for your keychain) at Wal-Mart for about $20. You can keep photocopies of your ID's, maps and itineraries, tickets, etc. inside. I also place a small CD holder in it for a CD that holds all the information I've typed up or saved onto my computer for the trip (maps, checklists, itineraries, photo scans of IDs, addresses for postcards, etc.), and for digital photo CDs I have made along the way in order to clear them off my camera (no need to buy lots of expensive digital film).
