  • Dry Hotel Air?

  • - To combat dry air in the hotel room, fill the bathtub with hot water and keep the bathroom door open - this will allow moisture to escape to the whole hotel suite.

  • Easy-to-Fix Travel Nuisances

  • -
    1. Ring Around the Collar:
Dirty neck rings around shirt or blouse collars can be removed by putting shampoo on them. Rub the shampoo in as if you were washing your hair. Shampoo is made specifically to remove body oils, the 'ingredient' of neck rings.

    2. Removing Gum:
You can pick up just about anything on the soles of your shoes. Removing gum can seem like one of the most difficult things to do. The solution? Rub ice on the gum to harden it, and then use a dull knife to remove the gum. The gum will come right off without damaging your soles.

    3. Killing Flies:
Are there flying insects in your hotel room? Hair spray will kill flies and most other insects.

    4. Drying Out Wet Magazines or Books:
Place paper towels on both sides of a wet page to absorb the moisture and prevent wrinkling.

    5. Lingering Onion or Fish Smells on Hands: Can't get rid of onion or fish smells on your hands? Wet them, sprinkle generously with salt, and rinse.

  • Extra Hotel Sheets?

  • - Usually hotel beds are equipped with an extra sheet, in case of children having bladder problems during the night, or for other reasons. This sheet is located near the bottom, and if removed can make a night's sleep in a hot hotel much more pleasant, stopping you waking up hot and sticky.

  • Find a Post Office or Stamp Machine

  • - When I first get to another country, I look for the post office or a stamp machine. Generally there's one at/near the airport/train station, and I buy enough stamps to send one postcard home per day/stop, sometimes more if they're especially pretty. Extra stamps make nice souvenirs or gifts for a stamp collector, they're relatively cheap and light, and sometimes you can sell the extras to fellow travelers. The postcards can then be sent at your convenience as you travel. If you send them to yourself, you have a mini journal with official postmarks when you get back.
