- Fill shoes with rolled socks and small underwear and other easily misplaced items like rolled ties and scarfs. Especially for men's shoes which don't flatten easily, this is a good way to fill hollows in the luggage. Start at the bottom and roll so that the air is removed. Partially zip the bag, use a straw to remove the remaining air, then finish zipping.
