7 8 9 10 [Next] - When packing for a cruise I always dread the fact that my luggage may get lost and I'll be on a boat unable to do anything about it. To try and avoid a ruined trip, pack a lightweight outfit and bathing suit in your carry-on. Then you can bake in the sun next to the pool and you'll have a clean outfit for dinner. Hopefully your lost luggage will catch up with you in a day. If not, at least you have something to wear shopping! Dolores Heil ID807 - When going through mountains and what not, bring cans of Spam and baked beans. If you are stuck in the middle of a Costa Rican mountain in the middle of the night with a flat tire and no phone and you are really, really hungry ... put it on the engine, baby. Perfect meal!!! Kirra McElhenney ID805 - I bought a portable hairdryer in Europe when I was there about 5 years ago. (The cost is comparable to one purchased in the US). I always take it with me now, and don't have to carry the heavy converter, transformer and adapters required for appliances purchased in the States. I just plug it in and dry! It saves both room and weight. Lynn Newman ID800 - I always keep a separate cosmetic bag for my trips. This way I do not have to pack and unpack everytime I go away. The extra item I added to my list was a small first-aid kit with bandaids and a container of insect repellent. I was in Costa Rica recently at a 4-star resort. No gift shop. I fell and had some cuts - they did not have any first aid. Thanks to my bandaids I helped myself. Jane Elvin ID110 - You want to pack everything but can't. Make 3 piles: necessities, almost necessities and luxury items. Take all the necessities, none of the almost necessities and one luxury item. It will be all you need. See my book, 'Don't Quit Your Day Job: Adventures For The Working Stiff'.
