  • Get an International Driver's License

  • - The United States State Department recommends, and I agree after my last trip to Europe: Get an international driver's license before you leave the USA. The test overseas is tough, and you can't drive on some of the toll (better quality) roads without showing an IDL. Many of the car rental services also insist on an international driver's license.

  • Get Menus Online

  • - We are staying at an all-inclusive resort which has 9 restaurants. I was able to get copies of the menus online - and printed every one. This was a great idea, because we are now able to pick and choose where we want to dine - as well as what we want to order!

  • Group Identification

  • - When traveling in a large group, it is helpful to either tie the same brightly colored ribbon or affix brightly colored tape on each and every piece of luggage (even carry-ons). This aids in being able to spot each other's luggage at all times. Also, when claiming bags, have only a few people from your group at the conveyor belt. As the 'color coded' bags come by, they can pull everyone's bags and place them into a pile away from the congestion of people trying to get their bags off the conveyor belt. Once the group's bags have been pulled aside, then the rest of your group can claim their bags.

  • GSM Wireless for Overseas

  • - Rent a GSM (Global System for Mobiles) wireless phone before you leave the United States. US phones do not work in Europe, Asia, and elsewhere. For as a small daily fee, you can have one phone, with one number, that will work in over 92 countries worldwide. These are great for the business traveller, families leaving the kids at home, or anyone who just wants to stay in touch.
