  • Take a Polaroid Camera
    - It's really fun to travel with a Polaroid camera every now and again. When I meet folks I'd like to thank for their kindness or service I give them a photo. Despite all my good intentions I've found that I can't always get around to making prints and sending them back. Handing the photo over immediately feels great! This is also a good idea for folks who like to take pictures of locals. It's a great trade: you get your shot with your fancy 35 mm and they get a Polaroid in return. It's an extra expense and one more thing to lug around, but seeing the smiles on people's faces as they watch their shot develop in front of their eyes makes it all worth it. Be sure to keep the photo away from the reach of kids while it's developing though; I've had shots nearly destroyed by the enthusiasm of little hands snatching it from one another to have a look.

  • Take a Travel Book With You
    - Always use travel books like 'eyewitness' or 'Fodor's'. Carry them with you to know all the best spots, cheapest restaurants, best food, places to stay, and hundreds of insights about your destination.

  • Take Care of Your Health
    - Plan carefully before traveling. Pack coldeeze, or zinc lozenges to fight off colds. (Builds up your immune system.) Carry those little bottles of germ killer lotions in your purse or pocket. (These are handy to wash your hands before eating out at a restaurant.) Also, don't forget to get a flu shot before leaving. It might be a good idea to get a pneumonia vaccine shot, too. That shot is good for 6 years.

  • Tip for Tent Campers
    - Cooking is always hard for the tent camper. An easy solution is a griddle. It's all you need to cook your bacon, eggs, burgers, hotdogs, toast, pancakes, hot sandwiches - and a lot more! It's small and easy to pack. Get rid of your bulky propane portable stove.

  • Travellers' Water Boiler
    - When planning to stay in a small inn with no microwave or coffee maker, check local power requirements and bring a traveller's water boiler. This comes handy when you need a hot drink or a cup of noodles. It works especially when you are visiting a high-cost city. A small water boiler only costs the price of 6-8 hot drinks.
