26 27 28 29 [Next] - If ever ignorance is not bliss, it is when it comes to your health and safety. For example, getting sick just before you leave is devastating to say the least, but even worse still is having to pay for the this trip. So get cancellation insurance when you book - just in case. This advice I learned the hard way could have saved me close to $800. 21-Apr-2001 Christian McCabe ID35 - Keep a Trip Checklist which includes things you want to be sure to take care of before your departure. It might include such things as putting a 'hold' on your mail and newspapers, turning your hot water heater to the lowest setting, unplugging your computer, watering all plants, connecting a timer to turn on lamps, making sure all appliances such as irons and coffee makers are turned off, setting security system, notifying a neighbor that you will be away. Check these items off as you take care of them, and enjoy your trip knowing you haven't left necessary tasks undone! 1-Jan-2000 Tree House Bed and Breakfast ID591 - If hiring a self-drive car abroad, contact local firms (find them on the net). We have always found them much more reasonable than the international groups. But check that you are fully covered by insurance. Hiring a slightly older car can also save a great deal. 21-Apr-2001 Jenny McLean ID98 - If you want to buy posters and prints in the location you are heading to, I suggest taking a tube like architecture students use to carry plans in. I'm a university student, and I found these big black plastic carrying tubes at my university bookstore. They are cheap, and sturdier than the cardboard tubes you get at the post office. They don't take up too much room, and you can stuff them with small items for the trip over. For the trip back, you can mail the tube home ahead of you to make room for more goodies! 3-May-2001 Lauren Nelson ID198 - If You Are From the United States: If you aren't changing all your Dollars to the currency you need overseas before you leave, make sure you have the new American bills with you. Many overseas banks will no longer accept the old $100s or $20s due to conterfeiting. 1-Jan-2000 Dorie Budde ID640 Would You Like to Add a Travel Tip?We welcome QUALITY travel tips from our users.Note: you will be required to enter the characters from a security image, so please make sure that you have your browser set to view images.
