3 4 5 [Next] - Ramadan hardly affects tourists in Morocco. The only changes you will notice are that offices and banks change their hours slightly and some shops close earlier for the staff to get home and eat their evening meal at sunset. Otherwise, shops and sights that you may want to visit are open as normal. Food and drink (alcoholic or otherwise) is available throughout daylight hours in hotels and tourist restaurants. As a matter of respect, you should not walk in the streets eating or drinking and if you are in a shop, you should try not to smoke. In many ways, Ramadan is a good time to visit Morocco, as it is less crowded and less busy and some hotels reduce their rates. It should be noted that the first call to prayer occurs in the early hours of the morning (not only during Ramadan). Since this is often a loud siren, it may awaken light sleepers or those in riads near to a mosque. Go to bureau de change instead. • Don't go to tour operators that appear too cheap. Their services might be disappointing or vehicles used might break down in the middle of a safari. They might offer poor accommodation or deceitful business practices. • Always ride in registered taxis. • Don't take the fastest buses. • Never walk unaccompanied at night in poorlylit streets or along deserted streets. • When shopping in street bazaars, always bargain. However some prices, as in restaurants, are fixed - and you might be mistaken for a miser if you start bargaining. • Always choose a guest house or lodge that has a working telephone. Wilson Edward ID2187 - When travelling to countries in Southern Africa, remember that Malaria is endemic to most of these areas. Prophylactic tablets must be taken the week before, during, and one week after your stay. Welcome to Kwazulu Natal, South Africa Welcome to Kwazulu Natal, South Africa ID1146 - It is advisable to ask permission before photographing any event relating to certain tribes like Maasai, Hadzables, and Datoga. These tribes are very conservative and have maintained their original traditional customs. They still practice primitive pastoralism and wild fruit gathering, and wear locally-made materials covering part or half of the body. For security purposes, some government institutions and organizations don't allow any photography anywhere near them - such as military camps and the Bank of Tanzania.
