  • Tanzania Travel Tips

  • - A return ticket and proof of sufficient funds are required when entering Tanzania. Visas are mandatory for all visitors except citizens of the Commonwealth, Scandinavian countries, and the Republic of Ireland. It is very easy to get a visa at any Tanzanian embassy abroad. The visa fee depends on the type of passport held. A visitors' pass is required for all travelers. This can be obtained free from any Tanzanian diplomatic mission or point of entry. It is advisable to get one before you leave home. Visit Smart African Safaris TZ for more information about Tanzania travel and tours.

  • The Best Times to Travel to Tanzania

  • - Tanzania has a tropical climate. The central plateau is dry and arid with hot days and cool nights, while the northwest highlands are cool and temperate. June to September is the cooler season. There is no winter here. Temperatures in northern Tanzania range between 60 and 70 degrees Fahrenheit during the day and 40-50 degrees Fahrenheit at night from May to October. From November to March, the daytime temperatures vary from 70-90 degrees Fahrenheit and from 6075 at night. The 'long rains' are from March to May and the 'short rains' are between October and December. The hottest months are between October and February. On the coast, it rains in November and December. From March to May, coastal areas are hot and humid although sea breezes cool the area pleasantly between June and September. • Travelling to Kenya

  • - As a rule of thumb, no tap water for tourists to Kenya. Mineral bottled water is sold in the super stores. Do not take pictures of government buildings; avoid the alleys in the major cities; avoid very friendly people who may want to rip you off; stay in the main avenues when walking around town; and just like any other major cities in the world, walk with as little money as possible. Always consult a reputable travel agency for your travel plans for a memorable safari in Africa.

  • Trust your Travel Guides - Especially on Safari Holidays

  • - If there is one tip that I seriously recommend to anyone travelling to Africa, or more specifically, the Maasai Mara (a game park), listen to everything your guide tells you, they don't say things just for fun!

When travelling on safari holidays, these people are extremely important and so is their advice. It is a good idea to note down what is being said, in order to be sure that you are positive about what to do!

  • Tummy Bugs in Egypt

  • - Forget about bringing stuff from home. If you feel you are starting an upset tummy, a product called 'Antinal', available from all pharmacies in Egypt, is the best answer. One or two tablets should set you right within an hour or two. The big mistake that most people make is thinking it will pass; it probably won't, because it will become your main focus of attention along with the fear of not being able to get to a toilet in time if you leave the hotel, etc. All the hotels and cruise ships' reception areas will be happy to supply you free of charge ... I repeat ... the secret to a quick recovery is acting in time.

Wait at least 30 minutes after coming in from the sun before drinking carbonated drinks or taking iced drinks/ice cream or before taking a cold shower. Your body's internal temperature will be very hot, and taking ice cold drinks and cold showers too soon puts your body into shock, frequently resulting in tummy upset.

I have never got sick from salads (many people tell me they have been advised to bypass the salads by well-meaning friends, etc.) in the hotels or cruise ships I have been on. Get the Antinal as soon as you arrive and then relax and enjoy the good food available, happy in the knowledge that you have the remedy in your bag should you BEGIN to experience tummy discomfort. It would be a shame to miss out on sampling the great food available because you are afraid of something that MIGHT happen!
