  • Trust your Travel Guides - Especially on Safari Holidays

  • - If there is one tip that I seriously recommend to anyone travelling to Africa, or more specifically, the Maasai Mara (a game park), listen to everything your guide tells you, they don't say things just for fun!

When travelling on safari holidays, these people are extremely important and so is their advice. It is a good idea to note down what is being said, in order to be sure that you are positive about what to do!

  • Tummy Bugs in Egypt

  • - Forget about bringing stuff from home. If you feel you are starting an upset tummy, a product called 'Antinal', available from all pharmacies in Egypt, is the best answer. One or two tablets should set you right within an hour or two. The big mistake that most people make is thinking it will pass; it probably won't, because it will become your main focus of attention along with the fear of not being able to get to a toilet in time if you leave the hotel, etc. All the hotels and cruise ships' reception areas will be happy to supply you free of charge ... I repeat ... the secret to a quick recovery is acting in time.

Wait at least 30 minutes after coming in from the sun before drinking carbonated drinks or taking iced drinks/ice cream or before taking a cold shower. Your body's internal temperature will be very hot, and taking ice cold drinks and cold showers too soon puts your body into shock, frequently resulting in tummy upset.

I have never got sick from salads (many people tell me they have been advised to bypass the salads by well-meaning friends, etc.) in the hotels or cruise ships I have been on. Get the Antinal as soon as you arrive and then relax and enjoy the good food available, happy in the knowledge that you have the remedy in your bag should you BEGIN to experience tummy discomfort. It would be a shame to miss out on sampling the great food available because you are afraid of something that MIGHT happen!

  • Useful Tanzania Travel Tips

  • - • Health: A yellow fever vaccination certificate is essential if arriving from yellow fever infected areas. Anti-malaria tablets are recommended. Take prescribed drugs a few days prior to arrival, during your stay, and for a short period after returning. Boil or sterilize drinking water and milk. Cook or peel vegetables. Private health insurance is recommended.

Currency: There is no restriction on the importation of foreign currency. Foreign currency can be changed at the bureau de change, which offers better rates than the banks.

Insurance: You are strongly advised to have your own insurance to cover baggage, personal accidents, and medical expenses.

Tipping: Tipping is not obligatory. Gratuities are at the discretion of the visitor.

  • Wardrobe Tips for Tanzania

  • - In wildlife lodges and country hotels, the emphasis is on comfort and informality. For ladies, light, easy-to-wash, dripdry blouses, skirts, dresses, light khaki trousers, and bush jackets go well. For evenings, light dresses or trouser suits are suitable. For men, dripdry casual shirts, short khaki trousers, and bush jackets are ideal. Evening attire in towns can consist of light suits or long sleeved shirts with ties. Bright colours should be avoided while viewing wildlife. Visitors to Ngorongoro are advised to carry a pullover, as it can be chilly after sunset. A bush hat or a scarf for protection against the sun and dust is a must. It is very useful to carry a pair of sunglasses, insect repellent, suntan lotion, and a flashlight. • Why Gorilla Tracking is a Favorite Activity in Uganda

  • - Mountain gorillas, popularly referred to as giant apes, are the largest primates living in the African rainforests. The mountain gorilla species, gorilla berengei berengei, is found in the Bwindi Impenetrable Forest and the Virunga Mountains.

With about 650 gorillas left in the country, tourism conservation efforts request your support to protect the endangered gorillas and other primates such as the chimpanzees.

Despite the increase in the gorilla tracking permit to USD 500, more and more tourists have traveled to Africa for a gorilla trip. While on a Uganda gorilla tour, you can also participate in wildlife tours, birdwatching, and chimpanzee trekking in various national parks in Uganda and Rwanda.

A gorilla tour requires some physical fitness, since trekking will involve climbing hills in the tropical forests.

Uganda, described as "The Pearl of Africa" ages ago by Winston Churchill, is an exceptional travel destination. In the eastern part of the African continent, the country is gifted with beautiful climate, vegetation, and scenery that astonishes any visitor.
