2 3 4 5 [Next] - When driving in the U.K. keep in mind that few roads, if any, have directions such as north, south, east, west - they merely state the larger towns and cities that are in the direction the road is headed. I had a map and pulled over to the side of the road, after driving for an hour looking for a road heading southwest. I made a list of the larger towns and cities that were in the direction that I was headed and just looked for them on the signs. I was able to travel all the way from London to Cornwall and back using this method. 1-Jan-2000 Amy Lippincott ID1118 - For U.S. citizens traveling in the UK: Don't forget when you are booking a room in the UK that a double room means a room with one double bed, a twin room means a room with two single beds. A double room does not mean a room with two double size beds and can lead to embarrassing situations - especially if you are a grown man traveling with your mother!! 13-Dec-2003 The Arosa Hotel, Bexhill on Sea, East Sussex, England ID1127 - If you are an overseas student with not much money in your pocket, a cheap way to come to the UK on holiday is to visit one of international farm camps. When you arrive, stop in the airport newsagent, motorway service station, or similar. Purchase a 'Road Atlas of Britain' or similar title. Avoid the plentiful '4 miles to the inch' ones and seek out the less common '3 miles to the inch'. They cost about the same but give much more detail. The cost should be less that 10 pounds and cover all of Scotland, England and Wales. The Automobile Association one is a particularly good one and can be picked up very cheaply at the end of the season in National Trust Stately homes. 4-Aug-2005 The Old Mill Private Hotel, Nannerch, North Wales, UK ID1122 - For travellers from the USA: If you would like a bedroom accessible without climbing stairs, be aware that in the UK you will need to ask for a GROUND floor room. The FIRST floor is the one above the GROUND floor 4-Aug-2005 The Old Mill Private Hotel, Nannerch, North Wales, UK ID1126 Would You Like to Add a Travel Tip?We welcome QUALITY travel tips from our users.Note: you will be required to enter the characters from a security image, so please make sure that you have your browser set to view images.
