- If you are flying into Heathrow and plan to stay in London, I suggest Paddington. Paddington is an excellent area of London and has an advantage over other neighborhoods: an express train that runs non-stop between Heathrow and Paddington. If I remember correctly, it costs about 15 pounds (roughly 25 USD) for a ticket. While this is more expsensive than a tube pass, it's more convenient, making the express train more effective than the tube, and a much more attractive option than taking an over-priced taxi ride. 11-Jun-2001 Alan R. ID248 - Travellers to the U.K., be cautious about renting a car from Europcar. Our recent experience at Glasgow: a nasty individual behind the counter high-pressured us into purchasing additional insurance, the vehicle we received was not what we had pre-paid for, the vehicle was dirty on the inside, and the rear brake indicator on the rear window was held on with duct tape. On the authorization on our credit card they added 150 british pounds without our knowledge, and our complaints fell on deaf ears. So fellow travellers beware! On a nicer note, a lovely hotel on the Isle of Skye, The Cuillin Hills Hotel, was an absolute gem! Great people, excellent cuisine, beautiful rooms - worth a visit. 21-Apr-2001 David Gourlay ID70 - If you travel to London with children and plan to be there for a few days or more, plan on buying the travelpass on the London Tube. This can be purchased for 1 day, the weekend, a week or more. The savings on transportation is substantial. To get the travelcard you need to prepare an ID photograph. This is especially important for kids. If your child is 5-15 years old, the discount on his/her ticket is almost 50%, but you will need a photo. Preparing this in advance will save you a lot of trouble. Just go to the ticket booth of any tube station in London during opening hours, and when you ask for a travel card, you will get an ID for all those travelling, if you have the photos with you. 1-Jan-2000 Mira Jenik ID1120 - Touring the UK we discovered there are no face cloths in the hotels. So bring one or two with you! 22-May-2001 Karen Howell ID214 - Many supermarkets now have special offers in their restaurants (cafeterias really). After 5 p.m. many will offer 'two meals for the price of one'. O.K. - these are not gourmet meals, but they are good quality and at 'Two for One' they're excellent value. 4-Aug-2005 The Old Mill Private Hotel,, Nannerch, North Wales, UK ID1123 Would You Like to Add a Travel Tip?We welcome QUALITY travel tips from our users.Note: you will be required to enter the characters from a security image, so please make sure that you have your browser set to view images.
