  • Don't Forget Beach Shoes or Sandals

  • - When travelling to warm weather destinations, don't forget to pack your beach shoes or sandals! Even hard core bare-footers can quickly burn the bottoms of their feet when walking on hot sand! A must for small children and babies.

  • Don't Forget Sunscreen!

  • - Whenever traveling to tropical destinations, sunscreen is a must!! Don't forget to apply to ears, eyelids (use sensitive skin formulas), and soles of feet!! Also, use a lip product with sunscreen and wear a hat or use a hair care product with sunscreen - your scalp can burn too. Many years ago a vacation to the Cayman Islands was ruined for me when my eyelids were so sunburned, they were swollen shut!!

  • Hawaii is 'Laid Back'

  • - Hawaiian Time - When in Hawaii don't be in a rush. You're on vacation and it's time to relax. There's no need to drive fast. Passing other cars in some situations is still considered offensive and disrespectful in smaller towns. If you're in a rental car, you're already sticking out - so be considerate and drive with aloha. When you're out and about try 'wait'. This means being courteous when waiting. It's time to talk stories with the locals and to understand why the real treasure of Hawaii is its people. Lucky we live aloha. Enjoy your visit with love in your heart, and your experiences in Hawaii will exceed your wildest dreams. All on Hawaiian time.

    • Water can remove most sunscreens. Always reapply after toweling.
    • Use extra protection for sensitive areas like the face, shoulders, chest, and lips.
    • Water, sand, snow, and pavement work like mirrors and can intensify exposure.
    • BEWARE! You can burn if you take medications such as certain antibiotics, antihistamines, and antidepressants.
    • Redness from sunburn can take up to 24 hours to show.

  • Keeping Cool

  • - When out and about in hot countries keep cool and hydrated by freezing almost full small bottles of water overnight in your self catering accommodation icebox. It will melt slowly enough for you to have regular ice-old drinks all day, instead of the usual warm water.
