- When traveling internationally (even to Mexico and Canada), always have a copy of your passport for backup purposes. Keep your original passport together with your partner or spouse in one place at all times (whether it's in her purse or carry on). Once in the hotel, (most international hotels have safes for this very reason) put your passport(s) in the safe for secure holding. I have done this many times now and it is the safest way to keep and maintain your "identity" while abroad. When you're ready to kick up your feet in Alabama, try visiting Gulf Shores Vacation Rentals. 19-Jun-2009 Amy Mutual ID2159 - Since 9-11, security for all modes of transportation has increased dramatically (especially for air travel). If you are confused as to what you may or may take with you when you travel, you are not alone. Use common sense. For example, anything that looks like a weapon is prohibited in your carry-on luggage: gun-shaped lighters, toys, paperweights, etc. Everything in your carry-on must be searchable. Therefore, gift-wrapped items are not a good idea. If your luggage is searched, all gift wrapping will be removed. Plastic ‘picnic’ forks, knives, etc. are ok – but similar metal utensils are taboo. Of course, the prohibited list includes box cutters, razor blades, sharp pointed metal scissors, and all metal weapons. Add to the ‘no-no’ list baseball bats, golf clubs, flare guns, hammers, or anything else that could be used to inflect injury on another person. Flammable items such as lighter fluid, fireworks, and spray paint may not be transported by air – either in your carry-on or checked luggage. More information can be obtained at www.tsa.gov. Do a search for ‘prohibited items’ to see the regulations regarding air, highway, rail, and mass transit travel. 111 Travel Directory - Bed and Breakfasts ... and more 18-Dec-2004 111 Travel Directory - Bed and Breakfasts ... and more ID1768 - I always take a bicycle lock (steel cable with padlock) overseas. My case and bags can be interlocked and secured to airport benches if I want to take a nap in transit. No worries about people stealing my belongings. A few times I have slept at Gatwick Airport prior to early morning departures, and the padlock gave me peace of mind while I slept on a bench. 21-May-2008 Helen - Australia ID2087 - When making frequent trips to the same city, find a trusted cab driver. A trusted cab driver will return items left in their cabs. I have had cell phone, Blackberry, and credit cards returned by cab drivers. You can negotiate trip charges, day excursions, and discounts for referrals. Save their phone numbers on your cell, add them to your contact list, and give their numbers to your assistants. You also can avoid the cab line at the airport or hotel. 29-Aug-2008 Lou Lopez ID2099 Would You Like to Add a Travel Tip?We welcome QUALITY travel tips from our users.Note: you will be required to enter the characters from a security image, so please make sure that you have your browser set to view images.
