19 20 [Next] - When going on long trips it is better to leave at night with young kids so they can sleep. I buy inexpensive toys and give 1 to them every hour since kids only like to play with toys the first hour. (Try magazines with older kids) T. T. ID186 - Prior to your trip, prepare a homemade 'book' with a page for each day you will be gone. Write the day/date at the top of each page. As you travel, your child can use any sit-down time to fill in what you are doing that day, draw pictures of interesting things you saw, paste brochures, or get the autographs of anyone - from your waiter to the occasional celebrity! Your book will be just the thing to share with your friends when you return. Cindy North ID942 - In planning a road trip with younger children, prepare surprise packets for them to open periodically during the trip. Perhaps you could plan for two a day - one midmorning, the other mid-afternoon. In these packets could be such items as books, travel games, snacks, small toys. This gives the child something to anticipate . . . as well as something to do. Discover Oregon, State of Oregon Discover Oregon, State of Oregon ID956 - Travel with children can be a challenge.
Mentaljokes.com Mentaljokes.com ID416 - OK, some of you might think we are terrible parents for this, but we travel with a TV/VCR and lots of kids' movies. The TV with built-in VCR plugs into a voltage converter, which plugs into the cigarette lighter. We have 4 children, and take frequent LONG trips. This has been a lifesaver for us! Don't worry, we still talk and look at nature, and sing and take pit and play stops very often, but when all else fails and everyone gets bored, the movie comes on! The latest addition to the trip is a neat little thing that plugs into the headphone jack of the TV, then sends the audio over an unused FM radio station. Each child then has their own radio headset earphones, so there are no wires everywhere, and Mom and Dad can visit in peace without having to listen to 'The Lion King' yet again! You may think this is all unnecessary, but it keeps the kids occupied, and isn't that what it is all about?
