  • Avoid Peak Air Travel Times

  • - When traveling with children by air, if at all possible book at non-peak times (late at night, midday and Monday to Wednesday). This gives you a chance at a free seat for your child to stretch out and sleep. Arrive at the airport early. Sprints down an endless terminal are difficult enough, but nearly impossible when packing a baby on your back and holding a small child's hand. When traveling by car and you bring along 'treats' NEVER give out them out too fast! Try every hour. You might even take a timer.

  • Avoid Sugary Snacks

  • - When traveling with young children we try to pack lots of snacks and drinks that don't have sugar in them. For example fruits and veggies, rasins, and crackers. After all - who needs a kid to get a sugar rush while confined in a carseat?

  • Baby Wipes for Stains

  • - Use baby wipes not only for wiping hands, face, etc., but also for getting out stains on clothing.

  • Bag of Surprises

  • - My younger brother and sister and I went on our first plane trip (to Hawaii) when we were 13, 12, and 9. To keep us occupied on the plane, my parents packed a bag of surprises for each of us that we weren't allowed to look at until we got on the plane. They included magazines, snacks, small toys, and travel games that we could all play together. It certainly made the plane trip fly by.

  • Be Organized

  • - We have 4 children, ages ranging from 10 years to 1 year. When you go on a trip with 4 children this young, things go a lot smoother when you are organized. One of the things that helps is to pack the children's clothes in gallon-size plastic bags. In each bag is 1 day's change of clothes. Each bag has the child's name on it. That way they just reach in the suitcase and pull out a bag. This eliminates the digging and hunting and cries when they can't find everything.
